Dr Jeremy Horst DDS, MS, PhD is Scientist and paediatric dentist with and enquiring mind and who was looking for an answer to tooth decay. When silver fluorides were presented, he began to study, research, and use them in clinical practice. The use of silver fluorides in dental care to manage dental decay is not new and has been used in many countries around the world for over 50 years. The use in Australia began in the 1970s, pioneered by Dr Graham Craig and his colleagues from Sydney University. It was born out of necessity to help provide dental care for children who had high needs and an unparalleled fear of traditional dental care. Dr Craig developed a world-first water-based solution was developed to help with this situation.
